Dust covers are protections applied to the cylinders that allow the chrome-plated rod to be protected from dirt and external agents. By keeping it intact, they preserve it over time. In fact, dents and breaks in the chrome plating on the surface of the rod can damage the sealing gaskets over time and promote oil leaks and the malfunction of the cylinder itself. This is a black rubber bellows or accordion dust cover like most items of this kind.
